NMR Group News

Co-Chair 2009-2011: Cindy Li

Cindy Li is currently working at Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. as a senior research scientist in the Department of Bioanalytical and Discovery Analytical Sciences. Her major responsibility is to support the structure elucidation for Drug Discovery Chemistry using NMR techniques. She obtained the Master degree from the City College of the City University of New York working on the investigation on the binding and structural characteristics by NMR of cyclodextrin inclusion complexes with organic molecules.

Co-Chair 2010-2011: Charles Pathirana

Charles Pathirana is currently a Principal Scientist in the Analytical and Bioanalytical Department at Bristol-Myers Squibb. His responsibilities include providing structural elucidation support in pharmaceutical development. Charles obtained his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada working on secondary metabolites from marine organisms. Before joining BMS, he spent time at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, CA as a postdoc with Prof. William Fenical and at Ligand Pharmaceuticals in La Jolla, CA as a Senior Research Scientist in the Medicinal Chemistry Department.

Scientific Advisor 2008-2011: Bill Metzler

Bill received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988 where his studies focused on understanding protein-DNA interactions. During his post-doctoral studies at the University of Colorado, he used NMR to determine the three dimensional structures of various peptides and DNA. In 1990, Bill joined Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he is currently leading the Department of Macromolecular NMR, conducting research on protein structure and dynamics, protein-ligand interactions, and fragment-based screening.
